Samhällsbyggnadsbolaget i Norden AB (publ) (“SBB”)’s new cultural centre Sara in Skellefteå takes the number one place when The Guardian lists the best architecture of the year. Sara Kulturhus has been developed in collaboration between the Municipality of Skellefteå and SBB. The building was designed by White Arkitekter and HENT has built the house with wood from the local area.
The property’s lettable area is approximately 26,000 sqm and it is 20 storeys high. The property is classified as an environmental building Gold. Combined with the fact that it is built in wood, it is considered as Europe’s most sustainable building.
“Kulturhuset is an important part of the development of Skellefteå and a symbol of expansion and forward thinking throughout the Municipality. Sara Kulturhus helps to draw attention to the whole of northern Sweden and the fantastic development that we are going through,” says Lorents Burman, (S), Chairman of the Municipality of Skellefteå.
The building is a unique landmark in Skellefteå and is one of the world’s tallest wooden buildings.
