Morphic has received a small strategic test order for the manufacture of magnesium chassis for a consumer electronics product from a new customer. Morphic Impact has now concluded a total of 169 partnership agreements with customers from different sectors in respect of Morphic’s method for component processing using high-speed technology, known as “adiabatic softening”.
Morphic has received a small strategic test order for forming trials of magnesium chassis for a consumer electronics product. The customer is a major Asian consumer electronics manufacturer and the order is the result of successful initial tests at Morphic’s Technology and Customer Center in Shin-Yokohama outside Tokyo in Japan. High-speed forming of magnesium is very suitable processing method and competes with casting and other traditional methods in terms of both cost and quality.
“To supplement our production of flow plates for fuel cells, we are working intensively on other applications for Morphic’s technology in a number of different industries and product segments. This is a strategically important order. If the trials are successful and result in full-scale industrialization, it would significantly broaden our product portfolio,” Martin Valfridsson, Morphic Impact’s CEO, says.

The opening of Morphic’s Technology and Customer Center in Shin-Yokohama outside Tokyo in February 2008 marked an important step in Morphic’s marketing strategy for the fast-growing Asian market. The center offers optimization of flow plates for fuel cells to customers throughout Asia. At the center customers can also produce test series prior to ramping up for serial production. A greater awareness among customers for the technology’s potential also creates opportunities for contract production of other components than flow plates.
