A new wind of progress is blowing at the Lake Vänern Wind Park. After the delays experienced last year everything is now proceeding to plan. In April we will raise the first tower and in May the rotor will be mounted. This means that the project will keep the original timetable.
Work on the foundations has been completed for half the park and Westwind, the vessel that will be used to lift the giant turbines, is ready for action. “We just have to hope that the weather will be on our side,” Mats Enmark, CEO of Vindkraft Vänern Kraft AB, says.
The timetable is as follows:
Week 16 – First turbine lifted into place. Press conference and boat trip to view the first lifting operation. A press invitation will follow.
Week 19 – Rotor blades mounted on first turbine.
Week 28 – First turbine taken into operation.
Week 40 – All ten wind turbines ready.
Week 44 – All ten wind turbines operational.
The municipality of Karlstad, through KBAB and Karlstads Energi, owns five of the turbines in the wind farm together with Hammarö municipality. Once up and running, they will provide environmentally friendly energy to 20,000 households and cut carbon dioxide emissions in the Nordic region by 90,000 tonnes a year.
First Wind Farm in a Lake
The Lake Vänern Wind Park is the first wind farm to be built in a lake and will use innovative technological solutions developed by DynaWind in Kristinehamn and Peab in Karlstad in Värmland, Sweden. The Swedish Energy Authority is following the project with interest because of its significance for the future development of wind power in Sweden.
